Student name: Madison Fearn                        Student assessor: Charlotte Bridgens

Diegetic sound is sound that occurs naturally within the story world (correct), both the audience and the characters can hear it (correct)- for example dialogue or sounds such as a door being slammed like in The Lost Boys (correct). It is within the stage of production as it is sounds that will actually be made by the characters and the environment they interact with, although it may also be edited during post-production so that it is louder or retains certain other qualities. Story world is called Diegesis. Dialogue and Sound effects are example of diegetic sound and you will need to find significant dialogue as examples from your film.
A non-diegetic sound is one that is edited in during post-production (correct) to add any necessary elements to the story world. An example of this is music as a soundtrack will be added in (correct) to have an effect on the audience’s emotions (correct), the movie interstellar is popular for having done this. Only the audience can hear non-diegetic sound. Incidental music is also a type of non-diegetic sound. Don’t forget to talk about tempo and pitch. Also in production because the sound needs recording and also pre-production because you need to plan it out and find composers to create the sound.
Denotation is saying what is shown by a section of a movie e.g. Ripley is walking around and looks scared (correct), a connotation would be saying what this means. Has to be relevant to what is happening within the film, context.
Mulvey discussed the male gaze which was the belief that women were sexualised in movies as to bring more movies into the cinema. Laura Mulvey 1975, how women are treated and represented to males.
